DS teaches English to Japanese students

An all girls school in Tokyo has started using the Nintendo DS to teach its students English.

The children are allowed 10 minutes on the DS, at the start of the day. They can practice writing the words on the DS touch-screen, and the console then pronounces the words out loud.

Japan’s education ministry allows its schools to use whatever teaching methods are deemed appropriate, opening the door to all sorts of innovative approaches.
